Interview #1 – Dani Fry

Our first interview, and the most important. Today we were filming Dani Fry, the manager of ‘Suttons House of Music’ who is our main interview and a sort of narrator for the story of Suttons. We filmed in Dani’s new performance venue ‘The Cabaret Club’ which is situated within a mini golf complex. We arrived to the site about 40min before shooting time. There was meant to be three of us there for filming that day however, in the end it was just Jack and myself. Jack and my vision were completely on the same page so setting up the interview look and framing was easy. The operating of the equipment was a bit of a challenge however… I was acting as interviewer and so unable to operate any equipment, so this left Jack operating both the camera and boom mike, and in charge of sound all at once.

On a positive note the interview itself went really well. Dani seemed really comfortable and gave long answers which is great for when we get to editing. I don’t think we’ll have an issue of not having enough content from her which is great. She also answered the questions in ways I hoped she would and so our idea of what we were wanting to present is still possible. She gave a really great line in the last question I posed to her that was “there’s music in the walls, and there always should be”. I really loved this line and think it will be great for the opening or ending of the film.

In terms of how the footage looks, it may be a little dark as the lighting in the space wasn’t great. I’m interested to see how it turns out, but considering we only had the two of us I think everything went really well.
