Serpa’s Guatemala Expedition Actuality Media Documentary Outreach WK3 Update
It has been an incredible few weeks in the vibrant and diverse country of Guatemala creating a meaningful documentary about the awe inspiring work of our social enterprise EcoFiltro. Our headquarters are in the picturesque community of Antigua which has been overwhelmingly accommodating as we have immersed ourselves in the rich Mayan culture and the abundance of languages and history.
We began our adventure by discovering more about our change makers and finding the right angle and building a meaningful story based on the information we received. It was exciting to find a human story which was built with great substance and tied into the problems and solutions of the water contamination situation in Guatemala.
The second week consisted of interviewing our subjects and bringing all of the found information together and carefully constructing a meaningful story with an array of emotional highs and lows. As the producer of our documentary I compiled a detailed Shot List in collaboration with my talented team along with detailing a meticulous production schedule.
The third week just passed was an intensive production week where every day at 6:30 we would venture either to the impressive EcoFiltro factory or ascend amongst the giant hills to capture the warmth of one primary school which has been positively impacted by the EcoFilter keeping all the children away from harmful water and harmful diseases. The filming at the school warmed all of our hearts as there was a real sense of love and a real sense of community that united all the school and gave us the feeling that we were included in a true family.
This upcoming week involves our skilled editors slaving over the computers, fighting over the last cup of coffee and sorting through hundreds of hours of footage and putting together our powerful final story.
Our final documentary along with our micro-documentary will proudly be screened in the centre of Antigua and will be open to the whole public.
I am confidence this final week will be a successful one and our films will represent the camaraderie of our groups, the love, the devotion, the vision, the dedication and the relentless positive energy of each crew member. The will to keep going and keep producing the most moving stories is testament to every single member of the Actuality Media crew.
Not only have we become better filmmakers, we have become better story tellers and through every diverse experience we’ve immersed ourselves in, we have become better people.
