Collaboration
Collaboration has been a big part of my work this semester. This took place within my own project and also, perhaps more so, between myself and other groups. My most significant collaboration came in the form of my helping out with the ”TMTBC” group. We spend a number of hours filming at the Thorburn Bowling Club for their retro short film. We discussed camera placement and settings all together under the main direction of Isobel Roberts. I took up the role of one of the actors. It was quite an enjoyable experience, and I think being in front of the camera gave me further understanding of the process behind the camera. Through my experience of being directed by Isobel, I received further understanding as to how I myself could direct actors.
I also lent a hand with one of the Disposal groups proof of concept shoots. Together with Lydia Jane, we experimented with ways by which a blood splattering effect could be achieved on film.
Within my own project, a great deal of collaboration took place. Even though the main crew consisted of only two people, a fair amount of others were involved in an indirect way. An example of this was talking to the local fire authorities in order to not alarm the people around our filming location of a possible fire (a risk of using the smoke machine). To a lesser extent also, determining and then acquiring a power source for the smoke machine was also a collaborative logistical effort.
