Final Project Idea development: Looking at Picnic at Hanging Rock
In order to explore my idea further for the final project, it seems pertinent to examine a film with similar technique to that which I want to achieve: Picnic at Hanging Rock (Peter Weir 1975)
Much theory surrounds Weirs construction of the film, but the concepts I am beginning to apply to my own work can be represented in the following quote by film theorist Jonathan Rayner:
“…a mystery without a solution, was the ideal vehicle for the manipulation of mise-en-scene to allusive effect and the re-orientation of audience expectation away from the inconclusive narrative.”
In the same way, I wish to focus my project on the sentiments inherent to its setting and mise en scene.
