Project Brief 4 (Reflection)
My experience with this studio has indeed been creatively enlightening. My skills have been enhanced and nourished in a number of deferent areas. Foremost of these, of course, has been that of screenwriting. A skill which I touched upon briefly in high school, the art of screenwriting was one I was glad to recapture. Indeed, it will be very useful in my ongoing creative practice as a media professional. However, in respect to ‘writing’ for screen – in the broad sense of the term – there, of course, is a lot more to what has been absorbed. Namely, that ever-important catalyst to screenwriting; the screen world. Through the course, I have explored a number of ways and means to construct a sense of the world, namely, concept photography, a trailer, synopsis and mind maps. A vast majority of these things are included in my final folio.
Another key area; the growth of which was facilitated and catalysed by this studio, has been that of collaboration. Over the course of this semester, some of the most beneficial experiences have been conducted in a group setting. This type of learning was of great benefit and contributed to my creative development significantly. One of the most rewarding experiences of the semester was helping a fellow classmate in the construction of their world through acting in one of their submission artefacts. Furthermore, in respect to my own work, much encouraging and constructive feedback was given by my peers, and this undoubtedly shines through in my folio. Throughout this semester, then, I have gained valuable resources in terms of new potential colleges and contacts. Throughout the course, we as a class have been exposed to a number of very informative and exciting resources in the form of the weekly readings. My favourites of these have been the screenplays sourced from actual film productions; these gave valuable insight as to what the industry is looking for. The readings have been a constant source of professionalism and an enlightening model to influence or own work. Over the course of the semester, I have seen improvement not only in my creative thinking, but also advancement and efficiency in executing this thinking in a structured way. Last to mention but certainly not least, is my appreciation for the wise and good-humored advice and instruction from our tutor: Stayci Taylor – information that will prove valuable for our on-going media practice.
