I believe that creative confidence is about finding your own unique and individual passions and interests and using them to spark and spur the creative light within.
Creativity is motivated by passion, love, and enthusiasm. We are all creative, imaginative, and artistic beings, but we each just express this part of our selves in different ways.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to being creative, voicing what we love and pushing what we believe in. It is just a matter of trusting our instincts. This entails being confident in the various processes and forms that we go about our expression and methods of production.
The ted talk that Seth posted goes deeper into this topic and discusses what it means to be confident in your own creative practice and to see the value in your own natural instincts.
The talk also addresses topics extremely relevant to the Lentara design studio such as ‘wicked problems’ and ‘dealing with mess’. In the real world the information, opinions and situations we will become exposed to are not always going to be black and white. Consequently having a real job and getting work done is not as simple and straightforward as producing a Uni assignment.
But this keeps us constantly open to change, innovation, and the chance to learn even more. In order to grow and develop both our minds and the quality of our practices we need to be accustomed to the idea of uncertainty. By working through all the differences, problems, and ‘mess’ we learn to evolve and adapt to an ever changing world. We are also allowing ourselves the opportunity to discover a breakthrough or find a new insight.
The trick is to approach the difficulty with a confidence in your creativity and a belief in the power of your own mind.
