A Final Post and Reflection…

Final Media Reflection

It truly is crazy to think how fast this semester has flown by. It only feels like a few weeks ago that I was filming my first Project Brief. Coming into the Media One course at RMIT, I was relatively nervous and apprehensive. My knowledge of creating, producing, and editing films was slim to none. My confidence and interest definitely lay in the theoretical aspects of the course. From the very beginning I found the course content to be highly engaging, fascinating and stimulating.

I have learnt so much this past semester. I never would have thought I’d be fully capable of filming, editing and producing a short film. So I am proud to know that I was able to accomplish this task. Having had very little prior experience in using any editing programs, I feel extremely proud of myself that I was able to grasp an understanding of how it all works in a short period of time. Even if I am only using the simple ‘iMovie’ to edit my media at this stage.

Other integral learning features for me have been work ethic, motivation and time management. In order to complete my assignments I need to find inspiration and motivation within myself.

This first part of the course has really taught me to develop motivation and discipline on my own terms. I have found that if I am to successfully manage and enjoy the course work, it is essential for me to combine the study load and assigned work with my own personal interests, skills and knowledge.

The group assignment, Project Brief 4, was a great way for me to actively learn and discover what it takes to cooperate with other students in a professional and productive manner. My group was amazing to collaborate with, and while we highly enjoyed the creative process, we also endeavoured to ensure that our work was of a high quality and accomplished before the due dates.

The way I learn most effectively is through an applied and hands-on approach. I have found the Media course to be incredible in encouraging this style of practical learning. Each of the project brief’s allowed you to tackle the tasks in an active manner. The Media Lectorials were filled with fascinating and motivating background readings, discussion topics, activities, and inspiring lecturers.

I found the most challenging aspects of the course to be staying on top of the blog posts and the creating/producing of media that was up to acceptable standards. Having very little experience in filming and editing I found the Project briefs to be extremely challenging. But diving into the assignments head first is what has allowed me to learn so much, and develop skills I never would have developed otherwise. I am extremely grateful for everything this Media course has allowed me to learn so far. I also know that by keeping motivated, excited, and involved in the course work and learning journey, my knowledge and skills will continue to expand and refine.
