I have always been interested in filmmaking. However, I have only ever done scripted videos in the past. As I read the studio pitches, I thought Reel to Real could be a new, refreshing experience for me. Documentaries and non-fictions are definitely genres that are outside of my comfort zone which I want to further explore. In addition, with the rise of media production, there are things that need to be taken into consideration when trying to decide whether or not it is fake or real. I want to learn how to produce media that only presents the truth.

Along with that, I also want to get better in doing interviews. Last year, one of the classes I took was Media and we needed to do a lot of interviews and I found myself quite uncomfortable every time I needed to ask questions. By taking the Reel to Real studio, I was hoping my interviewing skills will get better such as finding the right questions to ask the interviewee and figuring out the final viewpoint I would like my audience to have after watching/ reading my interview.

Lastly, it would be nice if I can get more technical with the cameras. I have never done a proper short film and all the videos I have ever made are all for my own entertainment. Since I am self-taught, I also had to figure everything out on my own. Most of the information I know now I don’t actually fully understand which is why I was hoping that with this class, I will be able to answer my questions. I am also anticipating for my technical skills to improve and I will get to play around with the different equipments available. In general, I am just really looking forward to finally producing my first ever non-fiction media.
