Creativity & Resilience

Creativity and resilience were required for our group as we all flex and adapt to the current social distancing measures and working remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.  We didn’t let this get in the way, instead of finding different ways to communicate and create content.  After our research and deciding topics for our films, we needed to gather content.  With limitations on shooting, we began to search for stock footage online.  Quickly we ran into the issue of copyright content, so we tried to focus our searches on royalty-free content.  However, we found copyright material to be good quality and useful for our ideas, so we will consider purchasing the rights to some.  We have requested access to stock footage databases to ensure we can find the style of content we need.

Another option we considered to shoot content is to use mobile phones in our home environment.  The biggest challenge here, is being able to film content that suits the style of our topics in a completely different setting.  This is still an option; however, we feel it will be mixed with other content such as stock footage.

We have also begun to explore the possibility of completing some interviews to use in our films.  A few challenges here, such as having to conduct these over the phone or video conferencing rather than shooting on video.  We are also relying on a participant agreeing to the interview.  We will keep working on this option as it could give us a variety of content to work with and add legitimacy to our film.

Along with generating content we also had to establish ways of working together remotely.  A positive result of this was how we have organised our content.  Initially, we were sharing links back and forth to content, which make it difficult to prioritise and find later.  So we set up a shared drive for everyone to upload their content and created a descriptive naming convention.  This was helpful to categorise our content and gave everyone easy access.  Gaining access to the adobe suite by the University also helped us to collaborate remotely.  We experimented with the software, layering different content from our group shared drive.  For example, as we began to group images together with sound and music, creating links to our themes and concepts.  This was where our ideas started to take form and we gained inspiration for developing our films.

I declare that in submitting all work for this assessment I have read, understood and agree to the content and expectations of the assessment declaration
