Treatment: Not Really There

Everything is black, but we hear footsteps walking down some kind of hallway. A man, mid-thirties, can now be seen walking across a bleak office, we follow him as he sits down on his chair, picks the mask up that has been hiding on the floor beside him and places it on. He takes a deep breath which cues the film’s title card: I’M NOT REALLY THERE.

We see the man look over to his right and notices a coworker, who is also wearing a mask, working besides him. The coworker looks up and turns his head to look over to him. The coworker notices a small pathetic wave coming from the new guy. He turns back around and begins typing. The new guy bows his head in shamefulness, until he hears a notification from his laptop. He looks at his coworker who is now working and looks back to open the notification. It appears to be a welcoming message to Brian (the new guy) from his coworker.  Brian, now a little confused as to why Michael (his coworker) couldn’t just talk to him, responds back. Anxiously waiting for a response, Brian looks between the laptop and Michael until finally scoots over to ask Michael a question. Michael slowly turns his head and now the two big mask heads are awkwardly really close. Subtitles flash on the screen with mumbled audio and then Brian slowly slides back. He looks at his laptop to see that Michael responded and throws his hands up in the air in annoyance and looks over to his coworker.  Michael continues to work on his computer.

We are then introduced to a series of work moments,  clocks ticking by, quick typing on the keyboard, constant phone rings and more. The noises become increasingly  distorted and frantic, Brian begins to lose it.

Brian slams on his desk and quickly stands up, the two men look at each other. Brian purposefully knocks over a cup, flips Michael off and walks away. Michael gently places his hand on his heart, he is offended, his head follows Brian as he walks away.

We see Brian frantically walking out of the office, ripping his mask off and pushing the door open. We see him pacing outside and then sitting down in an alley way. Sitting down, Brian sees his coworker from afar, who is walking back towards the office, unmasked.  Michael stops in his tracks and the two stare at each other. Michael raises his hand, gesturing a wave towards Brian, who after a moment, waves back. Michael walks back to the office.

Brian, still sitting, stares directly across towards the opposite side of the alley way. We then see him in the office, staring down at us, with the mask on, he takes a moment before he begins working on his computer.
