Screen Project 1 – Progress update
In this blog post, I want to share an update on the progress of the project. Everything has been on schedule, but nothing is definite yet since I am still in the filming stage. However, it makes sense to write this post now because I reckon things will get hectic next week due to other assignments.
Attached above is the final audio created with Akai MPC Live II. When I first listen to this, I was taken back a little because it was not a piano piece like I expected. After a few listens, I was captivated by the ambient melody. I guess it is a pleasant surprise then.
Here is the storyboard I drew based on the audio. I sent this to Minh and asked him to film the scenes marked with a star. Afterward, Minh sent me the clips: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Tdxsc-rtsPjyZN9eTemqH3civ88f8PPK?usp=sharing. It was interesting to see that Minh filmed at night while I am filming in daylight. This could create a nice contrast in the final product.
I must admit, this storyboard looks straight-up awful. Fortunately, it still works to inform Minh, Trang and I of the essential shots needed. I am actually unsure about the first scene though. I might end up not telling the audience that the drawing and set of videos are inspired by the music but instead let everyone feel the connection by themselves.
Although I am a planner, I found it really hard to plan further ahead than this. I think taking lots of videos first and then select the right ones later is the best approach to this project. All in all, I have been really enjoying filming. I am aiming to complete this task by August 20 and then start editing.
Update 19/8/21: I wanted to have a more variety of angles in Minh’s videos. Here are the extra shots I drew to send to Minh.
