Screen Project 1 – Brainstorming

It was announced a few days ago that Hanoi will extend the lockdown until August 22. Thus, I had to alter some of my initial ideas to make them obtainable in the current situation.

Since I can’t come to Minh’s house, I asked him to take videos of himself. I have written down the quality, frame rate, and aspect ratio of the video. I will send Minh all of that information, along with the storyboard that I will soon finish. This will ensure that the clips he takes are akin to my own. The storyboard will help him visualize the final video and the types of shots I will need. It could also inspire him to be more creative with filming.

Insufficient footage 

I was worried that not being able to film outside will lead to a lack of footage. Apparently, other students are experiencing the same problem. Many of them suggested using stock footage, which I thought was a great solution. It could potentially save me more time. Another alternative is asking my friend to take some clips for me so I could have more diverse settings. If it is possible, I reckon it would make editing a lot more exciting.

Spaces at home

Although I have other options, I still want to rely on myself as much as possible to avoid any unexpected problems coming from others. To me, being able to stage everything the way I want is more important than having a spacious area to film. Hence, I will try to utilize my own space by modifying it with tools.

An idea that was brought up by my speech was exploiting natural light. Given the current situation and my extremely dark house, I changed my focus to artificial lighting. I saw this sunset light projector on the internet and was immediately intrigued. As seen in the photo below, it looks nothing like the actual sunset. However, the colored plastic sheets have their own charms. I could even mix the sheets to generate new colors and new backgrounds with different feels. This is a fun product that I will definitely employ for my video.
