Making Sense of Social Media // Assignment 2 Post 4

After posting my first video,  I sent out a survey to friends and family who are in the 18-29 age range for feedback. Until now, the video got 56 views and 25 people did the survey with the youngest being 18 and the oldest being 27.

Here are some notable statistics (full report here):

  • Everyone thinks all of the recipes are easy to follow.
  • 24 people consider these recipes nutritious and they would like to see more videos from the channel.
  • Almost everyone likes the music chosen and will consider making at least one of the recipes.

Overall, people think the recipes have very clear and detailed instructions. Many enjoyed how calming and relaxing the video is. Nonetheless, there are a few things people pointed out that I will need to improve on. In future videos, I will need to work on the recording angle so it is easier for me to show products such as herbs and spices. Moreover, there are some unnecessary long shots that I could cut to keep the video shorter and more enjoyable. Some also wrote that they prefer chatty videos. I’m pretty shy in front of the camera so this is definitely a challenge for me. Also, I personally like cooking videos with little to no talking. However, I will still try to slowly talk more in upcoming videos to make them more entertaining to watch for everyone. Another thing I will change is to not include many detailed recipes in one video. It will be easier for people to find a specific recipe or topic.

Regarding the content, many ask for dessert recipes, Asian food recipes, healthy fast food recipes or simply something that is not on the market yet. These suggestions really fuel me with ideas and I’m already planning what to film next.

Except for YouTube, Instagram turned out to be the most popular platform for people to find inspirations and recipes. This information is extremely helpful when I want to expand my reach to other social media platforms.

With the responses, I got a good overall look at what kind of content my target audience likes and knew where to improve on.
