In this post, I will share the making process of the first video. This video acts as a prototype that will be used to inspect audiences’ preferences.
I decided to film 3 recipes that I make frequently to avoid mistakes as much as possible. The first difficulty that I encountered was due to my lack of experience with filming cooking videos. Previously, I have only filmed and edited casual travel vlogs. Cooking and filming at the same time required organizing skills and patience. I had to pay attention to the smallest detail such as how to position my hand in front of the camera so viewers can see my actions clearly. I also had to follow the recipe carefully or I might have to film everything again. While handling 2 tasks at the same time is quite stressful and time-consuming, it is a good learning opportunity for me to develop technical and soft skills.
Another notable problem was definitely finding background music. Finding suitable music for cooking videos was strenuous. I want my video to be relaxing and enjoyable so I tried to find songs that are not too loud that could distract the viewers from the actual video but also not too quiet to hold the viewers’ interest. I am also not familiar with the laws regarding copyrighted music for YouTube and for non-commercial use so it took me many hours of scrolling through SoundCloud, Spotify, and Epidemic Sound. Though I think the music I chose is fitting, I will need to wait for the audiences’ responses to see if changes are necessary or not.
Although I faced some difficulties, the whole experience was really enjoyable since I got to do what I love – cooking and filming. I really look forward to seeing the reactions of the viewers.
