For assignment 2, the question I want to answer is ‘How can I use YouTube to spread nutritional health awareness and engage with the audience?’. I came up with the question purely because of my passion for cooking, baking, and YouTube.
My intended target audience will be young adults from 18-29 who have little to no experience with cooking for themselves. According to a survey, millennials only cook around 13 meals a week and 18% are frozen meals (Porch n.d). In another survey, only 45% of people aged 18-24 and 64% of those aged 25-34 consider themselves to be “somewhat good” or good at cooking (LaMagna 2016).
With many delivery options out there, millennials are cooking less and ordering more because of convenience and time-saving (Cheng 2018). Moreover, many people live with their parents so they are less likely to prepare the food themselves. I personally think cooking is a vital skill that everyone should learn. Many young adults see cooking as a hassle but I see it as self-care. Consuming healthy and nutritious food is extremely beneficial for one’s physical and mental health. Cooking helps you know and control the exact ingredients going into your body while packaged and restaurant meals always have unnecessary and unhealthy additives.
I am hoping my videos could reach young adults who are interested in cooking or not, to provide them with nutritious and accessible recipes and cooking tips.
