Coming into this studio I knew the basics of editing on Premier Pro, and was eager to learn new methods and techniques to improve my skillset though, I would say that my editing style and technique haven’t changed within the first 3 weeks of the semester. Something I have learnt is how to “set up my edit correctly” through the use of bins, labelling and colouring clips before attempting to cut the media together. I would find it really useful to have a class where we are specifically run through different editing techniques such as punch-ins, motion graphics, etc, as I am a hands-on learner who finds it very useful to have these things explained and mapped out in person rather than watching an array of youtube clips.

I enjoy working in a quiet space where I can solely focus on the work I’m doing. The homework tasks so far have taken some time but I have been able to complete them within the one or two sessions of editing by trying to smash them out. This, however, has not been the case with previous larger works and the upcoming final assignment where I will need to implement more time and energy into my editing. I can still achieve the same effect of “smashing out” my work by dividing the piece up into sections. I might choose to just focus on getting all the audio clear and level and cutting out all of the ums, ahs and long silences within an interview script for example. When I am happy with the result of this I can then choose to leave it at that or continue on to another section of the edit, this way I will feel as though my work is completed in a structured way and not feel super disjointed.
