The main message I was trying to convey in my video was that love and beauty is scattered all around and that memories, big and small, are always being made. I started off with a shot of the fountain and exhibition building to establish the location. I then had a series of shots of birds, some close-up, some mid and some wide. Intertwined with these shots of the birds, I started to capture people. Small moments of their lives, such as walking along the edge of the pond, watching the birds with their grandchild, and sitting on a park bench peacefully reading their book. I included 11 videos in the final 1.55 minutes, most shots were around 8–10 seconds long, with a few shorter clips and one longer (19 seconds). Almost all of the clips I had were around 25 seconds long, so I cut them down to a length that didn’t drag on too long, becoming boring to watch. I think the rhythm portrays the location as being peaceful yet full of life. Most of the moments I captured might be viewed as mundane, but I tried to capture them in a way that painted them as beautiful. It was no longer a girl sitting by herself reading; it was a girl taking a moment for herself out of her busy day to sit and begin her new book she’s been excited to start. I dispersed these shots in between ones of nature to maintain a peaceful mood. Next time, I would like to experiment more with the ND filter and iris. I’d like to take the same shot five or more times with different settings to better understand what settings produce what exposure and what looks best cinematically. In terms of editing, I had a go at doing some colour grading, but it’s something I want to work on more in the future.
