My studio – Real World Media
The Rise and Fall of the Codans
I was very impressed with this groups final result. They accurately represented their story across multiple mediums with many artistic choices playing to each of their strengths. The creation of interactive museum space of a made up alien planet who went to nuclear war is no easy task and I couldn’t imagine a better representation. A goal of their group was to look into world building and they executed this perfectly. All of the different elements really got the participant immersed in the world and story of the Codans and their final sandbox archaeology dig was a fun interactive experience for participants. A key idea we looked at in our studio was ‘craft’ and although it wasn’t the main objective of this assignment you could really see the groups craft shine through. Whether it was their paintings, clay works, beaded pieces or the way they wrote their propaganda plaques. Overall I loved their project and thought they did an amazing job.
Dream State
Another group who caught my eye instantly was dream state. Melbourne Museum’s ‘The Mind: Enter the Labrinth’ Dream stimulation was always a favourite of mine growing up, so I was excited to see this groups take on a dream like experience. It certainly did not disappoint. They did a great job in the space they had, mentioning that they would have preferred a smaller dark space to really set the scene they worked around it by using temporary walls and bringing their own glowing ambient lighting. Again, similar to The Rise and Fall of the Codans group their space appeared very well crafted and all of the small details around the space such as the teddies and washing basket really added to the atmosphere. The video they created gave a very similar vibe to that of a dream by featuring small snippets of daily life in familiar settings though through their editing and colour grading it evoked a slightly eery feeling that a dream does sometimes. I would have loved to experience their project in a more private space with less outside noise around and constant changes to lighting yet even when all of this was occurring, they were still able to present an awesome experience.
Different studio – Ready Camera One
I went and checked out Ready Camera One and Wednesday and it was so cool. I loved that I got to check out the set that they filmed their assignments in and get a full overview of the cameras and control panel. After checking out the recording space I stepped in next door into what looked like a huge editing suite. I got to speak to a few of the students and they explained what the studio entailed and what they created for their assignments. I then looked further online at 2 particular projects, these being:
- Are you smarter than a dumb infant child (who is also in the fifth grade)?
- Music Madness
I got to see each of these play out whilst in the editing suite but with many people there and lots of chatter it was hard to properly hear the video so by watching each project’s reels I got a great glance of their projects. Both projects were engaging, funny and taught me a thing or two in my trivia knowledge. The delivery of both hosts and all players was wonderful as were the questions asked but what really interested me was the work that went into the video to make it flow seamlessly. Even the cutting and editing of the videos to fit into a ~2 minute clip was great. The banter between the host and contestants was very funny and the set, props, lighting and camera angles were all great.
