Assignment 5.2 – Studio Reflection

MY STUDIO:  Melody Jorgensen created a wonderful campaign with her commercial edit “Melbourne, a city alive”.  What stood out to me most in this edit was Melody’s use of colourgrading, all of the neon colours in each of the shots were highlighted and brightened up giving the commercial a bright exciting tone. The film features multiple locations however they are all tied together through this neon colourgrading throughout the piece. The pace of.. Read More

Instinct and Intention Final Reflection

Part 1: Describe what you gained from the studio My outlook on editing has completely changed since the beginning of the semester, I was originally disappointed to be in this studio as it wasn’t my first preference but I have learnt some valuable skills that will help me in developing myself career-wise. Something I have learnt is how to “set up my edit correctly” through the use of bins, labelling and colouring clips before attempting to cut the media.. Read More

ACTIVITY 4 – The Lenny Scene Screening

In class 5.1 we had a screening of everyone’s Lenny edits, while this became very repetitive it was really interesting to see how different groups had a) filmed the scene and b) edited the scene. Despite many people using the same group’s footage each edit was slightly different depending on where someone had chosen to cut, what shots to use during the dialogue exchange, the speed of shots and the use of reverse.. ACTIVITY 3 – Significant moments exercise

In class 5.2 we shifted editing styles to documentary, we were put into groups of 3-4 and had to film and interview each other for 15 minutes about our ‘significant moments’. We each rotated through different roles as interviewee, interviewer/sound recorder and DP. We were briefed on how the interviewer can give reassurance to the interviewee through facial expressions and nodding but be mindful not to make any audible noises as they interrupt.. Read More

An Instagram and TikTok account that I have been following for quite some time now is @gardenstatejournal. The account is run by 21 year old Dylan Walsh and primarily features videos of Melbourne, whether that be its suburbs, streets, people, fashion, food or culture. His videos aim to evoke an appreciation for Melbourne through candid, lo-fi videos capturing everyday moments of the city and its people. His videos display a nostalgic portrayal of.. Read More
