WEEK 1 BLOG – LACHLAN BAHR
Before beginning the ADM+S studio, automation and process of automated brought to mind computer software and tools used in every life. Tools such as suggested search on google, the recommended page on Youtube or Netflix and even things like advertisements and cookies. When I sat down and thought about all the ways I encountered such automation in everyday life I found it was almost impossible to find a task that wasn’t automated. Kitchen appliances which automatically turn off or on at the correct temperature, cars which have the quickest route automatically programmed in and can change depending on traffic flow. Given that I am a media student even my photography and videography tools have automatic image stabilisation, colour grading and auto focus.
My expectations for this studio is to better learn how automation (specifically in new technology) interacts and affects our everyday life. AI is quickly becoming the new frontier of technological advancement in society and to me it excites me for the possibility of new advancements and inventions which could appear in this space. I would also like to expand and improve my academic writing, video making and overall proficiency in my University work and research.
In order to meet these expectations I believe attending all studio sessions, applying myself diligently to work and extending myself beyond the minimum required work. Asking for feedback from peers and my class teacher will be vital in extending myself and ensuring my work is of the highest quality. I will also complete extra research into ADM+S especially around the AI area of study. My aim for this studio is to gather a better understanding of how AI can be implemented into everyday life to better society and improve the quality of human life.
