Reflection – Week 9
This week I had my meeting with Robin where we discussed my video work I have just completed, as well as some initial plans for my final video pieces for the semester. Robin gave me some feedback on the video based around my rat observation, mentioning some things he liked and didn’t like, and I appreciated the flexibility he gave me in my execution, understanding the struggles of working alone and my time constraints.
He pointed out a few little details in the short that stood out for him, some good some bad. Many of them I hadn’t noticed and proves that getting some fresh eyes to look over something is often a good idea. I found myself a little directionless with this piece though, as although I enjoyed it and thought it could’ve turned out great as a final proper short, the roadblocks in the way of executing it to a high level had turned me off, so I was simply just trying to complete it to get it done. I am sure this same attitude won’t carry over to my future works.
Robin also gave me some feedback on my voiceover edit of the Assignment 2, pointng out that while he liked the idea, it wasn’t quite executed best. I had to agree with him, I lacked a lot of inspiration with this piece and admit it felt a little tacked together at the last minute.
We also discussed my future work, and Robin suggested one of my observations that he liked a lot as a possible translation into a film. This was my observation about the boy working out on the rowing machine, and getting lost in the music before he is interrupted by a neighbour telling him to turn the music down. I do like this idea as I think it has some interesting filmic potential. I will strongly consider this idea and pitch it to some people in the class.
