During our Thursday class, my group (ft. Jamie) went guns a blazin’ into the pre-production ‘production’ stages of STeve’s future Emmy-award winning production, Lord of the Land. Sure – it was humble and set in the glamorous location that is the weird room on the corner of level 2 (or 3?) of building 9 where my Intro to Cinema class was once held – but it gave us a great visualisation of how our scripts translated onto screen, and the direction we wished to head in for the rest of our genre adventure.
Albeit in his absence, we shot Dylan’s multi-cam sitcom, as well as Bianca’s mockumentary confessional, using ourselves as actors (pronounced ac-tours). The tropes of a share-house centred sitcom were straight forward and familiar, enabling a no-questions-asked, to-the-script shoot. Alternatively, the mockumentary style piece to camera had us questioning the necessity of a tight script and the role of the camera/camera operator. From this shoot, these are notions we now intend to explore as part of our experiment on genre and process. Our original intention as a group was to bounce off our scripts, so it will be interesting to see how true we stay to this.
We have made plans of a more official, on-location shoot at Dylan’s Uncle’s house in Carlton (?). Pictures to come.
