I found the week seven symposium to be truthfully relevant to the way in which we shape our online presence, which brings us right back to the week one reading, “Blogs in Media Education”, in which Adrian discussed the importance of forming a professional and respectable online persona.
A lot of the activity we conduct online is egocentric – as much as I hate to admit it. Facebook in particular is a prime example of this.
By posting photos on Facebook we’re saying “hey friends/family/acquaintances/that guy I saw across the room at a party that one time/my 11 year old cousin’s best friend, here is a photo of me eating my raw vegan lunch/at a kewl party/at the Kanye West concert/at the beach/with my bae/from where you’d rather be“. And then we wait for the likes to accumulate on the picture, especially if we “dp’d” it, for affirmation that we are loved/cool/popular/have swag.
Because it would be totes awks if nobody liked your dp. I mean what a loser, really. So to avoid this it helps if you have a celeb/banging bikini bod/santorini in your pic and post it at a high traffic time (don’t even think about getting likes if you’re posting after 12am or before 11am).
So feel free to add me as a friend (lol jks) but remember to say lol and haha when you msg me so I know you’re not too serious 😛
