Pre-Production 5 Uncomfortable Filmmaking

The opening uses a non-linear timeline to create audience interest into the plot / storyline of the film and how it will be presented considering a large amount of the shots are already shown upon the introduction. in doing this it allows for audiences to question the style and format of the film and causes for heightened interest into the film.

Yes, because we use the techniques of editing and music in order to create an uncomfortable feeling within our film. We use these techniques in accompany with the already unorthodox shots (breaking rule of thirds, awkward framing, etc) to further create an uncomfortable feeling within the film. The editing and cuts to and from other points in the film cause for a confusing yet always changing timeline which never truly lets the audience know when exactly they are in the film and whether this time they have just seen will or will not appear again. The music and sound partner well with the scenes in order to convey emotion of fear and create a feeling of urgency and suspense.

If we were to continue, we would use lighting as a technique to subvert as we didn’t really explore it at all with this project. We believe that there is a lot of potential with this technique, however. One way of using this technique may be practical effects of lighting such as flickering. Another use could be colored lights in the scene which can be used to mirror or reflect / express emotions or meaning behind the shot subtly. This was a technique we roughly tried to create in post but scrapped it early on as in the format we edited the film in, it was hard to understand and follow the intended effect of colored lighting in a scene.

For a feature film I feel as though we would have multiple sequences with longer shots which means we can have more of the cuts between past and future scenes like we have in the end and beginning of the film. In doing this we could create a characteristic of how film that appears constantly and audiences can become familiar with, it can be used to further the plot or confuse audiences and create more engagements.
