Pre-production 2 Uncomfortable Filmmaking

After a significant presentation the previous week on Thursday and this Tuesday (which unfortunately, I was unable to attend), we felt that it was time to begin making decisions regarding the camera, filming locations, and perfecting the screenplay we have.

Regarding the camera we plan to use, I had an idea that it’s not solely about the quality of the camera, but it’s more about the movement. We aim for stable shots, so we needed to consider a tripod along with a decent camera that will make this film appear professional.

Selecting the location proved to be a challenge because I haven’t visited the site yet. Hence, it’s crucial to visit the place (possibly virtually using Google Maps) before making a final decision to avoid disappointment and prevent it from being too late to make changes.

Finally, concerning the screenplay, after reviewing the completed screenplay, we realized that it’s not realistic for amateur actors to portray over-the-top characters in our story. This aspect slipped our minds as we were enjoying the process of writing the story. To address this, we quickly drafted an alternative ending that’s much calmer but still contains the horror-comedy elements we aim to have in this film.

After all, I still have not contacted the actors (who are friends of my groupmate) nor visited the location. Both of these were crucial parts of the plan we had intended to carry out. This has added a sense of rush and worry for me, but I remain optimistic that we have a great story, and this short film project will come together well at the end of the day.
