This short film was one of my favourite and most memorable story. I have always had a soft spot for stories about family relationships. This was especially inspiring for me as it leaves a really deep impression and message for the viewers to think back about. It is true that there are rebellious teenagers and young adults who neglects and forgets the effort, love and support from their parents. It is very common for people to forget as they sometimes are too busy focusing on themselves and their lives that they have forgotten to take some time and properly think about the people around them. Not only that, the short film had incorporate the idea of the different types of love a person can show. It is true that different people have different methods of expressing their love to someone. In this case, even though the father’s actions was slightly violent and always gives off a negative expression, he still really cared for his son so much that he would do his best to help his son walk again.
Another factor that I believe makes it relatable for its viewers is that it includes realistic situations and circumstances of hardship in the adult world of earning money. It shows the possible accidents and dangers that can happen anytime in our lives as well as its consequences. The sense of realness in this short film creates empathy among its viewers. To add that, the music used in this was perfect as it sets the right mood. There were also moments of silence to add more suspense when needed. When it was closer to the ending, the pace of the music became faster and louder, matching the part of the story when things grow better and stronger. Music is definitely very important to create a big impact to the audience.
I really loved the overall concept of this short film. There is some cute and comedic scenes in it to add some joy for its viewers. With this concept of having a young child as the main character/narrator, the field of target audience is wider and reaches out to both children and adults. The music used in the beginning is more upbeat and suitable for the mood when the child is narrating. However, I believe the strongest element of this short film is the ability to change the mood of the story from 100 to 0 so quickly with just two words, “He lies”. That sudden moment of silence also helped a lot to create suspense and a good amount of time for viewers to digest the sudden change of mood. The change in music was also a good factor to distinguish the two situations.
Like the first short film I watched, it not only has the essence of purity of a child’s perspective, it has also the same realness of hardships an adult face in the real world. Unemployment and financial issues was one of the biggest elements shown in the short film. It is amazing that this short film created a good balance between the two. With that being said, the ability to include two different point of view of two person’s daily lives was very well planned and shown here. It allows both children and parents to understand what each of them go through everyday and how they trully feel. At the end of short film, it sends a clear message that the two of them loves one another very much.
