D Jason Lei Howden | New Zealand, 2015

Deathgasm was a disappointing ride. This fan film for metalheads delivered on the gore, but fails to deliver a good story. The film stars Brodie (Milo Cawthorne) who moves to a new town, falls in love with the token hot girl Medina (Kimberley Crossman) and makes friends with fellow metalhead Zakk (James Blake, Heath Ledger lookalike). Brodie and Zakk come across demonic sheet music that eventually congers up daemons.

There were some funny moments, however there were many lulls which ultimately hindered the momentum. The acting was not horrible however it was let it down by poor dialogue, which in some places was cringe worthy.

The titles, gore and effects were worth it though, however nowhere near the stylised violence and gore as good as Hobo with a Shotgun. This film would be enjoyable for metalheads, however it was not an exploitation tribute film, and the lack of story ultimately let the film down.
