Looking at my notes from the lectorial the first line reads “There is no such thing as an original idea”. The ideas in the link sent out clearly outlines the idea of the remix:
It is a fascinating concept that we can take something old, make our mark and convert it into something new. It is a grey area when appropriating someone else’s work, especially in the world of online piracy and copyright infringements. If the artist is attributed is it OK? The law says no, but as stated in some of the videos, rouge remix artists such as Danger Mouse as pushing the boundaries. It is stated on the library website ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ this refers to the field of academic research, where it is necessary to build on what has already been discovered in order to make new breakthroughs. However, the same argument currently does not apply to video and music artists. I intend to investigate this further.
