In the past three weeks of study, I feel like my mindset towards media creation has shifted. I used to be one of those people who didn’t really care about my productivity and thought that I could handle most of the media creation as long as I stayed creative. Such a slightly naive idea has caused me a lot of trouble in many media productions, which often slows down the entire project. I’ve actually been looking for the right time to get back into a proper and efficient workflow and I’m grateful to have been able to consolidate some basic and necessary skills through the different projects I’ve worked on so far in this studio. I only made a few minor changes in regard to my workflow, some of them seem more tedious, but they are truly the booster to the overall efficiency. For example, I have now gotten into the habit of drafting a shot list beforehand, even if it is only for a short video of one or two minutes. I used to think I could shoot as long as I could visualise what I wanted in my head, but when it comes to a big project that involves quite a few people, a detailed shot list can ensure everyone is on the right track. In post-production, I also try to categorise everything in detail, which may take some time but is definitely worth doing as it would be much easier for me to find the correct footage, especially for projects where the audio and video are recorded separately and a large amount of mussy material could be a nightmare for media production.
Overall, the studio has so far provided me with a comprehensive understanding of efficient workflows and I will continue to utilise my skills in a more flexible way.
