This week I watched the online conversation between Julia Sinkevych from Odesa IFF and Karel Och from Karlovy Vary IFF, they discussed some of the impacts towards the industries due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and they also briefly went through some changes they have been made in response to the current situation. First of all, both Odesa IFF and Karlovy Vary IFF are well-known film festivals in the world. Therefore, the atmosphere is considered as the most important factor for holding a successful film festival. However, it is hard to achieve online because it happens virtually without physical contacts. Julia Sinkevych described the current situation is kind of being in a dilemma due to the fact that it is hard to benefit both the international market and the local market at the same time when everything goes online. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the connections with local when we promote NNIFF, such as sending out the press release to local organizations, it is also a sort of contribution to the development of local culture. Moreover, Karel mentioned the significance of people for the film festival, he claimed that he is motived by people who are passionate about the film festival, which is a driving force for continuing his career. Karel also mentioned that he still works as usual with the team even though they had to work from home, which empathizes the importance of in-time communications online. For NNIFF, we use Discord as the communicating tool so that we can exchange ideas instantly. For Marketing & PR team, we also created a group chat on Messager in order to strengthen the connections on Facebook. From my perspective, communicating online is more accessible compared to face to face conversations, because we could arrange meetings without the limitation of location, which boosts the efficiency of production.
