Preproduction
My group decided to create a virtual reality video about cyberbully in terms of showing the continuous negative effects cyberbully can lead to. At the very start of the pre-production, we were stuck on the script and the setting of the character. Therefore, we put a lot of effort into casting. We used StarNow.com to find professional actors/actresses and we were surprised that a lot of people were interested in the project. I have not had any chances to participate in an audition before, so holding an audition was a unique experience for me to communicate with some specialists from the industries.
Test Screenings Reflection
Last week, we had a test screening in class and we received plenty of practical feedbacks. One of the most problematic issues for the video was the narrative structure. At the very beginning, we tried to show scenes separately. However, it was a bit confused while other people watching due to the fact that the structure was not clear enough. Therefore, we decided to highlight the 180-180 parts in terms of having two 180-180 scenes, which made the video more coherent. It was a great opportunity to gain feedback on time and fix the problems. Also, the experience of exchanging ideas was useful for me to improve my understanding of the project.
Final Work Reflection
Overall, the whole process of production was quite comprehensive, and I feel like I gained a lot of experience from it. Doing a project in a big group really gave me a sense of working in a professional studio, and it was quite fun to cooperate with each other. At the very beginning of the production, we did not have a specific allocation for the position, it seemed like everyone was working on the same thing. It was acceptable at this stage but it was lack of efficiency. Therefore, We started to assign tasks and tried to make them running smoothly at the same time. It turned out that we used class time to have discussions within the group so that we can use our spare time to work on each part of the project individually. Due to the fact that everyone in the group had different ideas, so it was quite difficult at the start. However, the experience of working as a group gave me the opportunity to understand the importance of teamwork in the industries. In addition, in terms of delivering the message to the viewers, VR video requires us to spend more time on the structure rather than just delivering visual content. Therefore, in the future, I will put more effort into storytelling in VR video in order to provide the best experience to the viewers.
