Ooh that hit me in a soft spot

Today we received feedback on our Project 2 brief. I have used the self evaluation checklist from the project 1 brief on feedback to reevaluate the process. I am confident that the concept of the videos I put together reflect me and values that I hold. However I was apprehensive of the feedback I would receive whether it be on the concept or the composition, which I wasn’t as worried about. I received feedback on understanding of the concepts, familiarity to thoughts and ideas, however changes to the composition required were prevalent and obvious. Because the DeBono hats were different perspectives, the feedback was sometime contradictory. The feedback showed me what other people valued and how they reacted to my work. I then had to make sure I understood the feedback, worked out if I had considered the idea previously and if it had merit do I take it on board or discount it. The most difficult about this process is generating feedback that is helpful to a person’s creative process or their ideas, as we have little experience both creating our own, with that person or even practicing this process. I feel I will improve my skill with the De Bono hat process over time with practice, and I will forget the structure around the process, giving fluid feedback. I feel a good way to separate the emotion of receiving positive and negative feedback would be to take notes, reflect immediately on the my feelings over the feedback, leave it for a time and then revisit it while trying to remain emotionally unbiased. I feel that I will utilise this process in my entire career. I suppose if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to produce high quality work as the refinement process would be flawed. Food for thought.
