Locke

I watched the British film drama Locke this week. It’s a film set on British motorways at night, centred around Tom Hardy playing Ivan Locke, who is effectively the only character visually represented in the film. It was an unusual film for me to watch, I tend not to challenge myself and enjoy movies that are easy to watch. Locke somehow captured me through the trailer in it’s cinematography, depicting a dull motorway drive in quite a beautiful way. The images depicted the emotion of Locke as he navigates a tumultuous journey, however it only aided in this as the entire film centred around the phone calls he makes. You could almost listen to the audio of this film independently and receive a very similar experience. It was an experience that I haven’t had before and opened me up to concepts of storytelling and techniques in building suspense that not only would I have never thought of myself, I couldn’t see an example like this appearing in my coursework at RMIT.

We shall see.

Good film.

Worth a watch.

Food for thought.
