Film/TV: Reading Points

For the reading, Developing A Crew, I learnt a lot of important details in how creating a film crew is essential in the production process.

One of the most essential things I took from the reading is how important the role of DOP is in a film (the second most important according to the reading). They are responsible to lead the light, camera and sound crew while the director focuses on the actors. Many of the roles in production answer to the DOP, who needs to be able to communicate with all of them.

Another thing I took from the reading was the importance of the personality types to work on the film. Don’t just get somebody because they’re good, get somebody who is passionate about the project and is committed to the project, even if they’re not getting paid. It’s important to understand your crew members personality so you know how to get them to do their best work and to treat them with respect. One crew member may need heavy discepline to get them to do their best, while another may only like to work in quite, intimate workspaces. Balancing a directing style is important to keep everybody on set happy and to keep them on the set entirely.
