FILM/TV – Directing the Actors Lecture

Here are a few of the things I took away from Sandra’s lecture.

  • Always have a place for the actors to stay in between takes, usually somewhere sheltered if you’re outside, or their own room if you’re indoors. It’s really just making sure you keep your actors at peace, but still an important piece of advice.
  • If the actor doesn’t feel comfortable doing or saying something, don’t force them to do it. Whether it’s because they believe their character wouldn’t say or do that, or because they can’t say a line or perform an action. Allow them to develop their character and contribute to the script and scene.
  • Make sure the actor is introduced to everybody on set (maybe not a Hollywood blockbuster) to make sure they are comfortable while on set, and not isolated.
