IM: the Cloud

So everybody knows what the cloud is by now I assume. A digital storage space held on a server that people can upload content to and access from anywhere that they can access the cloud server. It’s a USB without the physical stick.

The cloud is a database, filled with content. My question is what happens if somebody infiltrates their way into the server and is given access to everybody’s content?

I thought about this because I was watching a video of the game Watch Dogs, where you play a guy who hacks into a city basically, because the city is run on a single operating system. If you hack into the OS then you have access to every digital device in the entire city. Phones, cameras, traffic lights, bollards, street lamps, cars, everything.

So what if the future becomes sole cloud storage for content rather than physical hard drives? I feel that no matter the firewall, there will always be someone who can hack into it. Is this the risk we run by having everything digital?
