IM: Conceptualization of the final project

So, I’m now aware that we no longer have to complete weekly sketch videos, which pokes a hole in my assessment grid. So I’ve decided that to replace that section, I will keep a weekly log of the status and work of the final K-film project. This will include concepts and ideas I have for the film, and will probably include a few videos to show the work in progress.

So in my group (with James and Lauren) we’ve settled on the idea of superheroes & villains. Yes, it’s a bit of a far cry from what most people think of when they think of K-films, but I think that is what drew us to the idea. We’re toying with the idea of the real heroes and “powers”, like police officers and card tricks, respectively, being at one end of the spectrum, and the superheroes and their powers at the other end. From the smallest to the largest of heroes and villains, we see them day and night, even if some are fictional.

The plotting of the K-film that I had in mind would revolve around the course of a day and night cycle. The day starts with some light on hero work and powers, and as the day sequences go on, the level of “super” increases. When we get to night however, crime begins to run rampant, and at the end of the night sequences, we see these two forces clash. Then we go back to morning and day, where the cycle repeats.

Some of the shots I have in mind are super-speed running from a first person perspective (sped up in post), shaky cam film from somebody looking up at a superhero in action (done as ametur as possible to make the hero basically impossible to see), still shots of signs that a superhero has been at a certain place (like an arrow or batarang in a tree or spiderweb hanging from a building (shot from a distance using rope as web). Other shots of non-super powered things could be as simple as superhero toys at Target or the comic book store, or kids playing superheroes or Cosplayers as their favourite heroes.

I’m really pleased with how much we can develop with this idea and I’m sure it will evolve over the course of the next 4 weeks.
