A2 – Development 4.0 (progress)

At the moment I’ve been just looking into some short stories that I could use that aren’t too long and have enough information and photos that I can put into the visual. An article on CNN by Anne O’Neill ‘Life sentence closes oldest cold case’ talks about a child that was taken and killed but the murderer was never found until new info came out 50 years later and then they got him and sentenced to him life in prison. I just need to find someone who’s going to do the narration for us. Im also thinking of setting up two cameras and shoot record at the same time so I can create pace within the visual by using continuity editing. Whilst implementing some weird eerie sounds to get the viewers feeling scared. Also we are going to use a blog as the primary platform and hyperlink to other pages to continue to watch the story.

After talking to Taras, we planned how we were going to fulfil the characteristics of hyperlink and cross platform. We decided we are going to try and hyperlink to other pages about the murder, eg. facebook, instagram, and other pics that help the viewer to understand the story. I’ve also found that no one will really want to be on camera and narrate the story for the youtube clips, so I’ve put my hand up and said ill retell the information. I also found the location where we will film, which in in building 9 in the basement studios, in number 9 because it has a plain black wall that gives us enough room to put a tripod down in front of me. I wanna shoot with a 5d mark ii and a shotgun microphone and when i edit the footage i want to use small amount of type, to emphasise the information within the story and help the audience remember what is happening.

During class, Taras was told by Hannah (or said to the class) to make sure you work out how your going to section each clip and how your going to tell the audience that this is the first, second, or third clip. In basic terms, i mean that if a random individual comes by the clip on youtube, how is this person going to know that there is a part before the one they’re watching. So we brainstromed a few options and decided we can use chapters eg. chapter 1 and chapter 2 so that straight off the bat the viewer knows where they are watching from. Then using hyperlinks we can link the before video in the information section and or vise verse for the second chapter. Also in the youtube clips we will have a link to the case of maria’s wix website, allowing more people interact with the story and then lead them into other platforms.
