A2 – Development 2.0

As I continued to look back at last weeks reading ‘Miles, Adrian. Network Literacy: The New Path to Knowledge. pp. 201–08’ and some of the notes that I wrote down, this idea of network literacy influenced my idea generation. From my research and readings I found that network literacy is being able to participate with emerging knowledge networks that are now the product of the internet. Also having a deep understanding of the rules and regulations of these networks that we read and write on, allows you to easily distribute content across the networks using inter and intra communication. Where the population have access to my content if I desire for them to do so. This idea of sharing and being social, collaborative and inviting comments on online platforms I’ve found can invite an interesting learning experience. Therefore, when thinking of what platforms to hyperlink a video to, I think if needs to be one that allows for people to comment easily, without any barriers.

Also in this weeks reading ‘The Language of New Media’ it talks about hypermedia; which is a new media structure which is “conceptually close to branching-type interactivity” (Manovich,2001) . In terms that we can understand, hypermedia is a nonlinear medium of information that includes graphics, audio, video, plain text and hyperlinks. This designation contrasts with the broader term multimedia, which may include non-interactive linear presentations. The main difference is that it involves hyperlinks, a useful application that connects pieces together. For example, I was thinking about re-telling a story for the video content of the assessment. Where it is told in parts and the viewer can only watch the next part if he/she clicks the hyperlink, which will cross to another platform and start playing. I feel as though a murder mystery would work the best, since people will want to know what happened next and will catch their attention. Mosiac defiantly influenced this idea, but instead it will be more of a narrator talking to you with pictures being superimposed onto the screen. We could also implement what we learnt in Assessment 1 and use the element of sensory media (sound) to increase the suspense of the story for the audio/visual content. But that’s just an idea.
