Life Loves Drama

In our workshop we briefly talked about an artist that had called “rape” art. In that, she got a stranger to come into her room and rape her. She videoed it and then posted it all over social media, and her explanation was to dismantle male power, and she says “Central to this work is also the idea that rape is more than an unwanted sexual act, that it is the foundation for the entire institution of the patriarchy, and hence it is the crucial battleground for dismantling male power”. She also says “My intention with this title (are you ok bob?)was to reference the orchestrated nature of the event — who is using whom in this situation? — and also to highlight the way in which women are still encouraged to put others’ emotional wellbeing before their own,”. When I look at what she’s saying I’m like, yes that’s right, rape is getting very out of hand in the type of opinions and views that people have these days. But its also wrong to call what your doing as rape! Because its very insensitive to the people who have been subjected to rape and gone through it, with all the post dramatic stress and even depression that comes with it.

I feel like this artist did this, without sounding like a dickhead because she wanted to get back on the map. Since any publicity is good publicity. Like she hadn’t done much in the past and then she wanted to come back with a bang. This did just that! It shook the opinions and thoughts that people had heard of her and made more and more people share what they also think. Therefore, the amount of fans and or haters to increase. Even if there are more haters than lovers, there are still more people that knows her. This is like Miley Cyrus. Heaps of people love her, and a lot hate her. But this is what makes her famous. Society just loves drama.
