Let it breathe
I reflected earlier in the semester how I came to the realization of the importance of leaving a project to breathe. Like a nice red wine (or so I’m told, I’ll take an ice-cold cider any day). With this in mind, I put my realization into practise. A couple of weeks ago now, my footy club had our end of season trip away. In preparation for this, I decided to sink a large amount of time into finessing the edit until I was pretty happy with it. I then challenged myself to not look at the edit AT ALL for the 3 day long-weekend at Drysdale. Whilst I partook in a Ping-Pong championship, and played ‘never have I ever’ around a campfire with 34 other girls, I successfully didn’t touch the project. This short break away from the project was super helpful. Watching the project back, I picked up on a crazy amount of little things that needed changing. I couldn’t believe I was happy with the pre-footy trip cut. This little exercise reinforced what I hypothesised earlier in the semester, and was a timely reminder to leave ample time to edit a project. Because, when you think you’re finished, give it some space, you’re probably not.
