I decided to choose the mini-doc series created by the NGV gallery ‘Triennial’ which was posted to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Who is the practitioner? Who made the work?

The practitioner of the mini-doc was created by the gallery itself. The National Gallery of Victoria holds some of the grandest exhibitions to be admired by the general public. They are very much a professional company which encourages people to appreciate art in all shapes and forms. As for the artwork, Triennial brings contemporary art, design and architecture into dialogue, offering a visually arresting and thought-provoking view of the world at this time.

Briefly describe the content of the video. What is the video about? Who is the interviewee or participant? What are they discussing?

In this specific video, NGV introduce Dr Laila Hugrass who helped develop an online experience of Nuro for Triennial. She draws on research and the psychology behind the exhibition. She discusses the psychology and neuro-science of flow and creativity which were researched for the exhibit. She discusses the prompt to promote a positive mental space when creating her online experience. She introduces the audience to a molecular online experience that engages gallery visitors to a hand eye coordination and encourages them to that sense of ‘flow’.

Briefly talk about the form of the video.

This video was filmed in an interview like format. Dr Laila Hugrass was the interviewee who answered questions about her online experience and was the protagonist of the mini-doc. It involves pan-shots of the gallery exhibition itself to present the exhibition to its audience. It also involves digital work of the online experience Dr Hugrass created as an addition to the exhibit. The mini doc is almost like a walk through of the gallery and a personal interaction with Dr Hugrass. The discussion of ‘flow’ imitates the way in which this mini-doc was filmed as visuals of the gallery mirror the description of flow given by Dr Hugrass.

Why is this a favourite? What do you like about it? What could be improved?

I love the depth in which this video goes. Talking about the psychology behind art and experiences to really connect its audience. The description of flow adds a whole new layer to the exhibit and assists in telling its story. Something that could have improved this video would have been a bit more information and structure behind her online experience. Maybe dive deeper in explaining how and why it makes people feel this sense of positivity.
