Screen Lab Blog Post #3

Week three has been the wrap up week for questions and any struggles we had with Assignment 1. Thankfully, Cat introduced us to some Augmented synthesises that assisted me in creating my own sound score that I used in my final film. I experimented with beats and harmonies to match the mood of my short film. These programs included Google’s AR Synth and The Infinite Drums. With experimentation, I was able to apply the sounds to my short film to create more depth and tone. It was important to me that I experimented and stood out of my comfort zone to make and dynamic and organic soundtrack (Cancellaro, 2006).

Additionally, this week we looked at different camera angles and ways those angles tell a specific story. In my process of film, I thought about different ways I can angle and shift my visuals to tell and consistent story. My idea began to unravel this week after I read the required readings about the role of short film. Specifically its role of allowing students to adapt their story telling skill (Kabadayi, 2012). With this, I focused in on the use of social media, a field I am passionate about, and how texting and messaging has being a factor that disconnects people rather than connects people. I wanted to creatively show that technology absorbs the user sometimes.
