pitch review

Revealing our pitch to Shweta and James was quite nerve racking. I created a video to pitch my film idea of From Bean To Bin. Although at the time of creating, I contemplated titling my film 2,700,000, I’ve since decided to change that name. I explored the reasoning behind my film and the audience I wished to reach. Additionally I added my focus to not have a PSA video but more so follow the life span of a single use coffee cup. How it starts and where it ends.

I found it extreme beneficial watching everyone elses ideas and approaches to this assignment. I appreciated Shweta and James’ input as well by saying I need to focus on this story line and not stray to far from my idea. So I hope to successfully stay in line with the impacts of single use coffee cups through audio and story telling visuals.

I described the purpose of my moodboard which captured the feeling of depletion, however also combine it with a sense of normalcy and comfortability. The raw footage of waste and where it essentially ends up, compared to the earthy tones captured by coffee mugs. I believe my topic is seen but not essentially heard.

I furthered my research by reading articles on single use coffee cups. Sarah Whyte’s article “Takeaway coffee cups piling up in landfill as Australia’s caffeine habit soars”, explains the differences between recyclable, biodegradable and compostable cups which are the more environmentally friendly option. However these options are rather expensive and not all cafe owners are willing to pay those prices. This concept is something I want to integrate into my film by following a Who Am I? effect. Asking my audience What Am I? What Am I made of? Things to get my audience questioning their actions.
