As we come close to the end of the semester, we are still keeping the writing strong with another exercise, and this time, looking more into how to create worlds in a screenplay.
We were given three options to write about: light, distance or inner perspective through sound.
This were all pretty hard to write about since I’m still yet to hone my skills in writing so descriptively. I ended up choosing to write about distance. There were two ideas I had – one was to write about a setting and the distances between certain things, and the other was to write about two people who were together but were distant from each other.
Here is an excerpt of my first idea:
We see a white, double story house with a front porch decorated with a swing bench. A rainbow of flowers litter either sides of the arch steps. A few metres behind it sits a red barn house. A wooden trailer sits beside the double doors that are slightly ajar. PAN to the left side of the barn house, lies a field of green grass. A tall, bushy tree sits in the middle, and a tire hangs by a rope on a branch.
And now here is an excerpt of my second idea:
Carlie and Blake lay in bed facing away from each other. Carlie remains asleep, with her eyelids looking a little bit swollen. Blake lies with eyes wide open. His breathing remains steady. His bottom lips begins to treble and tears begins to fill his eyes. He covers his mouth with one hand, and blinks furiously. He lets out a sigh.
