Just kidding, it’s not actually a party, but considering the group I’m in, it may feel like it so I’m looking forward to filming.
We’re actually planning for the production of a web series, or in simpler terms, we’ve finally started pre-production of a pilot episode.
After the talk we had with the writers last week, our group came to a decision that we would film one of the writers scripts as it is without any changes or redrafting of it. We decided on doing this script since our group was most drawn to it out of the pile as a pilot episode to introduce the characters and the general outline of the web series, and the writer of the script also explained to us that it was written with the production team in mind. When we reread the script again, our group knew that it was achievable to film this script as a pilot within the next week.
So we began by listing the production roles and organising ourselves into them. Considering the time constraint we had, we foregone using Star Now to cast like originally planned but we will use it in casting for future episodes. Instead, some of the group members and a writer volunteered to act and we would double up on production roles when it came to filming. Knowing that this was only a pilot, we knew that we didn’t necessarily need to have everything on point. And by that, I mean, pilot episodes don’t always have the same characters and the same locations as they would in the future episodes. The casting and locations can change after the pilot since its purpose is to introduce the characters and storyline of a series. So like with casting, we also weren’t as fussy with the locations we chose.
But don’t get me wrong, in spite of us being lenient on these two factors, it didn’t mean that we thought of this production any less seriously than if it were filming the actual series. We just didn’t have the time to focus on every detail to its finest grain. We knew that the script we had was simple and our group easily shared the same picture of how it would look. But in filming for future episodes, I know that we would be more attentive to every aspect of producing a web series.
