Dining Decisions

I couldn’t understand what they were saying as they spoke in language that was foreign to me. They stood in front of me in the line waiting to order. The woman would point at the menu above the counter and the man would just shrug suggesting his indifference. The woman walked towards the counter and grabbed a menu before returning by the man’s side. They continued to speak in their language as they focused on the menu.

One of the check out workers raised their hand and called out for the next customer. The couple was too engrossed at the menu that they didn’t notice the call, and I stood behind them waiting to see if they would actually move. The employee made eye contact with me and I took that as a signal to bypass the couple in line. Once I had ordered and stood to the side waiting for my food, I saw the couple on the next counter ordering their food. They leaned towards the employee when he spoke, and I could only guess that it may either be due to the loudness of the court or possible a language barrier. Or maybe even both. When they finished ordering, they walked towards the side and waited for their call. The then woman began to walk around the food court looking for an empty table while the man stayed in his original position.
