POST AESTHETICS: ‘GOOD CONTENT’ (A2)
GOOD CONTENT
The journey to having a well-received post in PA was a bumpy one.
I didn’t exactly know where I should start. Many posts were pictures side by side that displayed similar aesthetics. For example, here are some well-received posts of this vein:
She is clearly rocking a TJ from Recess aesthetic.
My attempt at creating a similar effect was a complete failure:
After this attempt I tried to veer my content to something a little less personal or ‘niche’. Many people were posting meme’s about Hillary’s pandering to african Americans while declaring she keeps hot sauce in her bag 1, Beyonce’s Lemonade and the ‘Becky With The Good Hair’ drama that followed. I also noticed that a lot of the content played on nostalgia of many millennials childhoods/adolescence as you could see from the example above. With this in mind I made my second attempt at good content:
Again, failure.
After this post, I decided to make a larger effort to simply participate within the community and make connections. I did this by commenting on other post’s and getting involved in conversations and debates. A few days later I unintentionally found myself in a full on debate about the pro’s and con’s of capitalism. Unintentionally, because who would have thought that an innocent (and meant to be tongue in cheek) response would turn into 140 reply comment thread.
Honorable mention to this guy:
The day after this interaction 2 was the first day of all – text week.
Now that I had spent almost 2 weeks absorbing content and participating within the community I felt like I had pretty good handle on what this community found amusing. As a result of spending so much time on this page, my Facebook NewsFeed was almost all PA posts. This fact resulted in me accidently commenting on a reply (posted by a stranger) to a post of an acquaintance – thinking that it was a post from PA. My comment wasn’t exactly ‘safe for assignment’ and I quickly deleted it.
This somewhat embarrassing moment made me think about all the times people accidently text the wrong person. I personally have sent a text message to my brother’s girlfriend that was certainly not for her eyes. It happens. I thought the people of PA would appreciate this story as:
1. It’s relatable
and
2. it relates directly to the PA community
I used hyperbole in telling the story making what I said a bit more NSFW 3 and changing ‘acquaintance’ to ‘Family Member’. With this I finally got the results I was looking for :
