Through this assignment I tried to capture things that I particularly enjoy or make up a large part of me. As we were prohibited to edit it straight out captures elements of my life as they appear to me rather than what I wished they were.
I’m quite a social person (or so I like to think) and this particular photo was taken after a University lecture with some new friends I’ve made. I also love plants and this bar has greenery hanging everywhere.
This is my over grown vegetable garden from back home in Benalla. Throughout my childhood I was constantly tending to this garden with my Mother, though mostly ‘tending’ meant pulling out everything and starting again simply because we always let it be taken over by weeds and so had to start again every season. In the background you can see my Border Collie Scout. I convinced my family to get a new puppy (more precisely a border collie) after our last dog Sophie passed away of old age at an impressive 17 years. Scout is 18 months old and extremely active and one of the loves of my life. I go home for her every weekend because she loves the attention I give her.
I’ve been playing Netball since I possibly could. I’m a Goal Shooter (hence the goaling ring) and it is my favourite sport to both play and watch. I’ve been driving to Melbourne 3 times a week for 2 years to play netball here even though it is a 2 hour trip each way. My Dad set this ring up for me in our back yard so I could always practice. Netball is one of the main reasons I chose to move to Melbourne for University as I already play here. I realise now that I took advantage of this ring in my yard as now (living at RMIT Village) it is much harder and more inconvenient to practice shooting.
This is an image I took of the Benalla lake and Benalla bridge as I was walking my dogs around it with my Mum on the weekend. I have driven, walked, run and rode over this bridge countless times in my 19 years of living. I’ve seen it flooded, I’ve jumped off of it and I’ve set fireworks off on it. I used to think it was a simple and ugly structure but now I see the beauty in it as it is part of my history.
My new room at RMIT Village. I love to sleep in (and stay up really late..) and so I spend a lot of time in here. It may be small but I’ve already learned to love it.
My view from the balcony of my room. I spend many hours sitting on the balcony with my roommate watching life go on beneath us and shouting across the courtyard to talk to friends on the other side.
Audio PlayerThis recording is of me playing with my dogs in the backyard of my home. I throw the tennis ball countless times for Scout and Fergie and they never fail to bring it back, keen for another throw.
Audio PlayerI may not be very good but music is one of my main passions in life. I play the violin and used to play the piano. Sometimes people might be lucky enough to hear my awful singing when I play if I get too carried away. I love listening to music 24/7 and I love almost every genre there is.
Audio PlayerRequiem for the Croppies by Seamus Heaney is one of my favourite poems of all time. I studied Heaney in Year 12 Literature last year and immediately adored all the Irishmans work and I find his expert use of sibilance mesmerising. My literature class was small and we acted like a family all year. It was an incredible environment and after dropping Physics to pick up another English class I was nervous but they welcomed me with open arms. This poem not only reminds me of Heaneys brilliance but also the cherished memories of my 2015 Literature family.
I have a strong passion for reading, I always have. I do a lot of recreational reading in my down time at home and in my room. I read in cars, buses, trams, trains, bed, lounge rooms, pools, just every where that I can. I usually carry a book around with me in case of any free time.
As I previously mentioned, I’m obsessed with music and I have an extremely large and diverse itunes library.
I have a very loving family with Mum, Dad, 2 older sisters and 1 older brother. They taught me most of the things I know about life and support me through everything. When we were younger we used to go on lots of family camping trips together. Now I have hundreds of photos of the family when we were younger and I love looking through them often.
