Project Brief 2
The artefact is a self-portrait in a mediated form of communication about who I am. This piece represents my interests and my hobbies in daily life. My interests include fashion, art, fireworks, social life, the beach, lights and glow in the dark. Through these representations of my interests, I have been quite successful in expressing my identity.
The audio recordings include background noises taken from a bar and also a phone conversation between friends. These recordings convey the importance of my social life. The recording of a cheerful music implies my daily life trying to take things positively in difficult situations.
In the videos, I have shown the view of fireworks which have always taken my attention. Similarly, the other video of blue lights glowing in the dark symbolizes my interests. This is a video of jellyfishes taken in an aquarium, complemented with children background noises. With this video, I am trying to show my interests in glowing lights and animals. The sound of children in the background also relates to my artistic and creative interests since childhood.
Editing processes have been about putting the shots together to form a repeated day-to-night and back to day narrative. I have used fade and dissolve transitions to show that time passes to the next day. Therefore, this editing technique and narrative connotes my daily life including my interests. What I have done the most successful is adjusting the images in an appropriate composition and well as a creative way of showing the writing piece in a star-human shape. The glowing abstract video is significant in generating audience mood according to the colour and movement of the blue jellyfish. More over, the audio is complex and clear in presenting my daily life interests of social life. The language spoken in the audio of phone conversation implies that I am able to speak Bahasa Indonesian, coming from an Indonesian background.
The least successful parts of my self-portrait would be the sound editing quality. Although it is clear, the recording could have sync more to the beat and that extraneous noises overlapped are distracting. This recording is one of the least successful parts. Furthermore, I could have added subtitles for the phone call recording as it is spoken in Bahasa Indonesian language.
